FORT MYERS (620 WDAE) -- Wilson Ramos and Mallex Smith each drove in a pair of runs but the Tampa Bay Rays could not defeat the Boston Red Sox, leaving with a 6-6 tie Thursday at JetBlue Park.
Ramos' two-run double int he first inning capped a three-run frame off Brian Johnson. The right-hander had previously allowed an RBI single by Adeiny Hechavarria that scored Johnny Field, who doubled to start the game.
Tampa Bay starter Chris Archer allowed single runs in the first two of his three innings of work. An RBI single by J.D. Martinez scored Mookie Betts to cut the lead to 3-1, and a fielder's choice by Aneury Tavarez an inning later made it a one-run game.
Smith's two-run single in the fourth re-established the Rays' three-run lead, and an RBI groundout by Matt Duffy one inning later pushed the advantage to 6-2.
Boston scored twice in the home half of the fifth off Ryan Yarbrough, with Xander Bogaerts doubling in Hanley Ramirez, and Jackie Bradley Jr.'s RBI groundout against Matt Andriese made it 6-4.
Colton Murray relinquished the lead in the home half of the seventh, with Jeremy Barfield driving in a run on a base hit, and Brandon Snyder's having a pitch get past him to the screen that knotted the game for good.
